Baseball Series Preview: College of Charleston

South Orange, N.J. - After its road trip to Phoenix last weekend for the MLB Desert Invitational, the Seton Hall baseball team will be heading to the College of Charleston for their first three-game series of the season starting with a 3 p.m. contest on Friday.

First pitch for Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m. and the series finale is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. All games will be streamed live on FloCollege. Seton Hall currently stands at 1-2, winning 15-3 in seven innings on Saturday against Austin Peay.

News & Notes

This will be the first meeting between the College of Charleston and Seton Hall.

The Pirates' overall team batting average is .367 with 40 hits over three games last weekend.

After a 2023 season where The Hall went 31-24 overall and 13-8 in the BIG EAST, qualified for the conference tournament and its staff was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year, the Pirates had a down year in 2024 and will look to bounce back in 2025.

The Pirates return All-BIG EAST First Team pitcher Ryan Reich, who led the BIG EAST with 89 strikeouts and finished with the second-most strikeouts (51) and the third-lowest opponent's batting average (.194) in conference play.

His 89 strikeouts were the most for a Seton Hall pitcher since 2014.

Reich allowed only two hits and one run over four innings with three walks and five strikeouts on Saturday.

Reich and the Pirates' Friday starter Dan Frontera (39 app., 24 GS, 6-12) appeared on D1Baseball.com's list of the top 150 starting pitchers in the country.

Frontera made his 40th career collegiate appearance and his 25th career start.

D1Baseball.com also tabbed freshman right-handed pitcher Stephen Curry BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year.

Aiden Robbins, BIG EAST Player of the Week

Robbins hit .625 (10-for-16) with four doubles, a triple, six RBI, and six runs scored in three games, slugging 1.000 with a .625 on-base percentage.

He recorded two three-hit games and a four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI in the win over Austin Peay, setting a career high in hits and matching his personal best in runs and RBI.

Robbins went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Across the country, Robbins is tied for second in hits and doubles after opening weekend.

New Pirates

During preseason, AJ Soldra was named the best transfer in the BIG EAST by Baseball America.

Soldra has already made an impact on the team batting .500 with seven runs scored, six hits, a home run and 12 total bases.

Senior transfer Jimmy Brennan has a posted a .545 batting average with three runs scored and six hits.

Freshman Stephen Curry made his collegiate debut and earned the win with three innings of relief allowing two runs, walking none and striking out four.
