CRYSTAL RIVER, FLA. – The Seton Hall women’s golf team began tournament play for the spring season on Friday and currently rank 10
th among 17 teams at the 2013 University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational following round one. The Pirates fired a 26-over-par, 314, in round one and currently trail the team leader, Bradley, by 12 strokes. Two other BIG EAST opponents are also competing in the field. Host Cincinnati is currently third at 16-over-par, while Rutgers is 13
th, two strokes behind Seton Hall, at 28-over-par. Junior
Christina Cantú (Houston, Texas) and sophomore
Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) both led Seton Hall with a 5-over-par, 77, in round one. They are tied for 21
st place among 102 individual golfers. "I was happy with our effort today, but clearly we were a little rusty," said Head Coach Sara Doell. "Top to bottom, everyone worked hard and I was happy with the way we represented ourselves. With a round now under our belts, I'm looking forward to better results and moving up the leader board." Sophomore
Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) shot one stroke worse with a 6-over-par, 78, and is currently tied for 29
th place.
Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) and Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) rounded out the Pirates’ team scoring with a pair of 10-over-par, 82’s. They’re tied for 63rd place.
Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) competed as an individual and was 15-over-par, with an 87.
Seton Hall will resume play with the second round of the tournament on Saturday.
