CRYSTAL RIVER, FLA. – The Seton Hall women’s golf team will open tournament play in the 2013 spring season with the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, March 22-24, at Plantation Golf Resort in Crystal River, Fla. The Pirates are coming off a historic fall season which saw top five finishes in all five tournaments. Instead of resting on their laurels, Seton Hall has worked hard in the off-season. “We’ve had a solid few months of practice and preparation for a competitive spring season,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “With our indoor putting room, full swing simulator and pitching practice in the field house, the team has had the chance to work on all areas of their game, despite the inclement weather. We also increased our strength and flexibility by working hard in the gym and with Weekly Yoga sessions.” Seton Hall will send juniors Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) and Christina Cantú (Houston, Texas), sophomores Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) and Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) and freshman Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio). Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) will compete as an individual. Sixteen teams will compete over 18 holes on three days at the 6,054-yard course. In addition to Seton Hall and host Cincinnati, the field includes: Bradley, Embry Riddle, Daytona State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, North Dakota State, Oakland, Rutgers, Seminole State, Tampa, UAB and Xavier. “This will be the third year that we will compete in the University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational and we find ourselves headed into the event as one of the highest-ranked teams in the field,” Doell said. “With that ranking comes the responsibility to be ready to compete and represent the Pirates in the same fashion as we did all Fall.” Last season, Seton Hall tied for ninth among 19 teams at this event. Basalone fired a 1-under-par, 71, in the third and final round to allow the Pirates to climb the leader board. Cantú led the team with a 15-over-par, 74-78-79-231. “Our main focus going into Friday’s round is to be target oriented and organized in our mental thoughts and pre-shot routines on the golf course,” Doell said. “I know that this team is ready to go and I believe that we will be a strong contender in this event.” For complete results of each round, please check back with SHUpirates.com at the conclusion of each day.
