Collectively, the Pirates shot a 30-over-par, 318, in round one, but are only nine shots behind the team leader, Yale. The Pirates are leading both of their BIG EAST competitors. Rutgers and St. John’s are currently tied for sixth place, two strokes behind Seton Hall. “When you see the number 318, you might not think we played very well,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “But when you consider the cold and windy conditions, I think we battled very hard and performed admirably. We’re in a prime position to make a nice run tomorrow.” Kruse is in excellent shape for individual title contention, only two strokes behind the leader, Bonnie Hu of Harvard. The remaining four Pirates contributing towards the team score in Rhode Island are all separated by just three strokes.
Freshman Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) is currently tied for 18th overall following her 7-over-par, 79.
Only two strokes behind Zabrosky are Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) and Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.), who both shot a 9-over-par, 81, and are tied for 30th overall.
Freshman Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) is just one stroke behind Basalone and McClure following her 10-over-par, 82.
Juniors Samantha Massei (Allen, Texas) and Haley Van Es (Granger, Ind.) also made the trip and are competing as individuals. Massei shot a 16-over-par, 88, in round one, while Van Es was 19-over-par with a 91.
Monday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Play is expected to conclude by 2:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony immediately following. Complete results will be available on www.SHUpirates.com.
