BEALLSVILLE, MD. – The Seton Hall women’s golf team will resume its spring season with the 2013 Hoya Invitational, April 8-9, at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Maryland. The two-day, three-round event will be played on a par-72, 6,127-yard course. In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgetown, the 14-team field includes Brown, Campbell, Hofstra, Lehigh, Mount St. Mary’s, Nova Southeastern, Penn, Sacred Heart, St. John’s Towson and Yale. Last season, the Pirates finished ninth among a field of 11 teams. Seton Hall shot a 114-over-par, 324-335-319-978, 34 strokes behind the team champion, Old Dominion. Sophomore Christina Cantύ (Houston, Texas) fired the low round of the tournament for Seton Hall on the final day of competition, posting a one-over-par 73 to lead the Pirates and finish in a tie for 16th place individually with a three-round tally of 241. She moved up 23 spots in the third round, entering the day in a tie for 39th place. This season, the Pirates are coming off a rain-shortened University of Cincinnati Spring Invitational that had Seton Hall charging up the leader board when the tournament was called early. The Hall finished an impressive fifth, their sixth straight top-5 finish this season, among 17 teams. Cantύ was again the top performer for Seton Hall. The junior shot an 8-over-par, 77-75-152, to tie for 13th place among 102 individual golfers. Seton Hall will bring Cantύ, Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.), Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.), Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) and Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio). The Pirates will also bring Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.), Samantha Massei (Allen, Texas) and Haley Van Es (Granger, Ind.) who will all compete as individuals. “We were playing some of our best golf when play was stopped at the University of Cincinnati tournament, so we’re anxious to get back out there,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “This is a course we’ve seen before and look forward to improve on our showing from last year.” The field will tee off on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. and play 36 holes, with the final 18 holes starting on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. A practice round will be held on Sunday, April 7.
