One of only four individual tournament champions in Seton Hall history, Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) is coming off a stellar fall season. The senior averaged 76.91 strokes per round and finished second at the season-opening Bucknell Invitational. The top-5 finish is the sixth of her illustrious career.
Coach Doell's Thoughts on Erin:
"Erin was an emerging player out of Arizona that was just beginning to see junior golf success when we found her. She was looking at some great schools so I felt very fortunate when she decided to become a Pirate.
Her junior year was a great one including a win and a 2nd place finish at the Big East Championships. She has not disappointed this fall as she continued on that road of success. Her best finish was at Bucknell where she finished second leading us to one of two victories this fall.
In the Spring, we have the chance to visit Erins' home state as we will spend Spring Break practicing in Tucson before heading up to Rio Verde C.C. to compete in Western Michigan's event. I see good things for Erin as she finishes her collegiate career this Spring"
1. What were the main factors guiding your decision to attend Seton Hall and compete for the Pirates?
The moment that I stepped foot at Seton Hall University I realized that it was the right place for me. Between Coach Doell and the team environment it was hard to turn away such a great opportunity. It has been one of the best experiences and choices I have made looking back on my initial decision to sign with Seton Hall University.
2. What are some of your best experiences at Seton Hall, to date?
There has been many great experiences at SHU but of course the best one by far was winning the Big East Conference last year. It was the greatest feeling to be able to go into the conference championship as the underdog and end up taking a win with just four years under our belt. Every time I put on our Big East ring it gives me chills on what our team did last year.
3. What are you most proud of in your athletic career?
Many things make me proud being a student-athlete at SHU but it has mostly been becoming a better person and athlete all around. At Seton Hall you are surrounded by incredible people who make sure that you succeed in the classroom and on the course. The support has lead me to become a better athlete and it was reflected throughout the past two years. Specifically my junior year when I won Rutgers. In that moment I knew that if I didn't have the help and support from my coach and teammates that could have never happened.
4. What are you studying and why did you decide to choose that major?
I am a Business Marketing major with a Market Research Certificate. I chose this major because Marketing gives me the tools I need for the field I want to enter after college.
5. What three words would you use to describe yourself as a student-athlete?
Hard-Worker, Driven & a leader
6. What three words would you use to describe your team?
Fun, team-orientated and energetic
7. If you could go back to your freshman self, what advice would you give yourself?
I would tell myself to stay in the moment and not try to get so overwhelmed with school and athletics because there are so many resources that can help you succeed.
8. What are your plans after school?
Most likely I will be going back to Arizona or California to pursue a job in Market Research, Real Estate or as a Sale Associate.
