
WGolf Heads to the Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, ARIZ. - The Seton Hall women's golf team will return to the links on Friday, March 13 for the first of three rounds at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational at the Rio Verde Golf Club.
Originally known as the East/West Invitational, Western Michigan will play host to seventeen other teams for the thirteenth straight season in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitation (March 12- 15). For only the fourth time in the tournament's 13 years of existence will it be played on the White Wing par-72 course which was re-designed by Tom Layman in 2008-2009. The event moved from a 36-hole to a 54-hole format in 2005.
In addition to Seton Hall and host Western Michigan, the field includes ULAR, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Wichita State, Ball State, Northern Arizona, Xavier, Missouri State, Bradley, Ohio, Akron, Texas A & M - CC.
As part of their Spring Break trip, the Pirates will have all seven roster members competing in the event.
Seton Hall is coming off a 16th place tie at the spring season-opening Kiawah Island Spring Classic two weeks ago. Collectively, the Pirates completed the three-day event with a 71-over-par, 328-300-307-935 in a 16th place tie with Charleston Southern. Seton Hall finished ahead of both of its BIG EAST competitors. Georgetown finished four strokes behind The Hall, while St. John's ended the tournament a distant 64 strokes behind SHU. The College of Charleston won the team title at 22-over-par.
Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) led the Pirates and was consistent throughout the three-round event, finishing with a 4-over-par, 74-73-73-220, to tie for 14th place among 150 individual golfers. Kruse finished seven strokes behind the individual champion, Jacksonville's Jessica Welsh, who finished at 3-under-par.
"We've had a great Spring Break week of preparation, but we're all looking forward to getting back to tournament competition," said head coach Sara Doell.
