SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Sophomore Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) delivered a pinch hit RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Seton Hall baseball rallied to edge Manhattan, 3-2, in game two of Saturday's double-header for its ninth straight win.
Seton Hall (13-6) trailed 2-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Brett Fontenelli (Toms River, N.J.) slapped a pinch-hit, two-out single, which scored the tying runs.
Turning Point:
With the score tied at two, junior Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) hit a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) grounded out, Alescio delivered his game-winning hit to put the Pirates on top, 3-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- All three of Seton Hall's runs were scored with two outs.
- Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) and Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) led the Pirates with two hits apiece.
- Sophomore Chris Morris (Matawan, N.J.) pitched five innings and allowed two runs in a no decision.
- Sophomore Zach Schellenger (Malvern, Pa.) allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings of relief.
