Poduslenko, Mogues Homer, But Pirates Fall
4/1/2017 10:02:00 PM | Baseball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seniors Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) and Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) both hit solo home runs, but the Seton Hall baseball team couldn't overcome a 5-0 deficit and fell to LIU-Brooklyn, 6-2, in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday.
In a scoreless game, the Blackbirds struck for five runs on six hits off of Seton Hall starter Cullen Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) in the top of the third inning. The Pirate left-hander settled down and pitched well for nearly four more innings afterward, but the Seton Hall offense couldn't overcome the early hole.
Poduslenko and Mogues hit solo home runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the LIU lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the first two Pirates reached base, and The Hall loaded the bases with two outs, but alas the runners were stranded.
Inside the Numbers:
- Dana took the loss, allowing six runs over 6.2 innings pitched. He struck out four batters and walked one.
- Poduslenko reached base three times, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk.
- Junior Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) recorded the final seven outs of the game in order with five strikeouts.
- Junior Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with a stolen base.
- Freshman Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) went 2-for-4.
- Seton Hall left 11 men on base, while LIU-Brooklyn left five.
- Poduslenko now has five home runs this season and has homered in three straight games.
- Poduslenko has 10 RBIs in his last three games.
- Seton Hall reached double-digits in hits for the 11th time this season and the third straight game.
- This is the fifth time this season the Pirates haven't committed an error and their second game in a row.
- Seton Hall falls to 26-9 all-time against LIU-Brooklyn.
Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when they conclude their three-game series at Owen T. Carroll Field against LIU-Brooklyn. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
