
Women's Golf Releases Spring Slate

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head coach Natalie Desjardins announced the 2018 Seton Hall women's golf spring schedule on Friday. The Pirates will participate in five tournaments this spring.
The Pirates will begin competition this spring at the Rio Verde Invitational for a fourth straight year played on Quail Run at Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona, Feb. 23-25. Last spring, the Pirates tied for 16th place with a 64-over-par, 313-307-308-928. Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) was the top Seton Hall golfer with a 12-over-par, 74-77-77-228. Teammate Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) finished one stroke behind Sager. The Hall's top effort at this tournament came in their first visit in 2015. That year, the Pirates won the team title at 32-over-par, and former Pirates Erin McClure and Ali Kruse tied for the individual title. McClure edged Kruse in the tie-breaker to claim the championship.
Two weeks later, Seton Hall will play in a new event, the River Landing Classic, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The three-round tournament will take place on the River Course of River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C., March. 4-6.
Seton Hall will return to the Low Country Invitational, March 17-18, at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C. Last spring, the Pirates had a strong showing in the Low Country, placing third with a 68-over-par, 320-324-644. Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) finished second among 95 individual golfers with an 11-over-par, 78-77-155. This will be the Pirates' third time participating in the tournament. They tied for 10th in 2016.
The Pirates will return to the Buckeye Invitational, hosted by Ohio State University, April 14-15. The three-round event, held over two days will be played at Ohio State's Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. Seton Hall has played in this tournament one other time, in 2016, it placed 12th with an 80-over-par, 325-311-308-944. Three Pirates on the current roster played in the event, Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.), Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) and Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.). Tomeo was the top performer of the three, finishing at 27-over-par.
Finally, the Pirates will return to Callawassee Golf Club in Callawassie Island, S.C., April 20-22 for the annual BIG EAST Conference Championship. It's the third straight year that the conference's marquee event is at Callawassee. Last spring, the Pirates placed fifth with a 72-over-par, 315-311-310-936. Pantelas tied for second place among all individual golfers with a 6-over-par, 71-74-77-222. Win also notched a top-10 result, finishing seventh at 11-over-par. Two years ago at Callawassee, the Pirates claimed their third straight BIG EAST title with a 71-over-par score.
