
Layne, Thompson Stymie Hawaii, 5-1

HONOLULU, HI. – Sophomores Billy Layne, Jr. (Cliffwood Beach, N.J.) and Noah Thompson (Frisco, Texas) combined to limit Hawaii to just one run and five hits as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated the Rainbow Warriors, 5-1, on Saturday.
Both Pirates turned in career-best performances with Layne, Jr. tossing the first five innings, and Thompson the final four. Layne, Jr. scattered three hits, allowing just one unearned run, while striking out three and walking only two to pick up the victory. His five innings pitched match his a career-high. Thompson allowed only two hits over a career-high four innings with a career-best six strikeouts and two walks. He earned his second career save.
Offensively, four Pirates collected at least two hits with Al Molina (Freehold, N.J.) and Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.) reaching base three times apiece.
Turning Point:
With the game tied at one, the Pirates took control in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) and Shedler-McAvoy began the inning with back-to-back bunt singles. Sophomore Connor Hood (Shrewsbury Pa.) followed with a two-RBI triple into the right-center field gap to put the Pirates in front, 3-1.
The Pirates added insurance runs in the top of the fifth and ninth innings.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow when it continues its four-game series at Hawaii. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. HT (7:05 p.m. ET).
