WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – Sophomore Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) and the Seton Hall women's golf team are currently on top of their respective leader boards after two rounds of the 2019 William & Mary Intercollegiate entering Tuesday's final round.
Kness was brilliant on Monday, leading the Pirates in both rounds. In the first round, she used three birdies and 13 pars in route to her second career sub-par round, a 1-under-par, 71. In round two, she had three more birdies and finished with a 2-over-par, 74. Through two rounds, Kness has a four-stroke lead on the field of 80 individual golfers with a 1-over-par, 71-74-145. She is looking to become only the second golfer in Seton Hall history to win multiple individual titles.
As a team, the Pirates also have a significant lead on the field. Seton Hall shot a 13-over-par, 301, in the first round, and entered the second round with a seven-stroke lead on the field. Scores in the afternoon across the field went up significantly, but the Pirates only added to their lead. The Pirates shot a 25-over-par, 313, in round two, which was tied for the best team score. Entering Tuesday's final round, The Hall is 38-over-par with a 301-313-614, and leads both High Point and Penn by 11 strokes.
The closest golfer to Kness is actually a teammate, but one that is competing as an individual. Freshman Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) is currently in second place four strokes behind Kness with a 5-over-par, 72-77-149. She had three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars in round one, shooting even-par.
Junior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) is currently on pace for her 13th career top-10 finish. In round one, she finished with nine straight pars in route to a 3-over-par, 75. In round two, she had a 6-over-par, 78. For the tournament, Win is in eighth place with a 9-over-par, 75-78-153.
Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) had three birdies and 11 pars in the first round, leading to a 3-over-par, 75. Her second-round 83 was a little uncharacteristic, but with scores up across the board, she found herself tied for 15th after two rounds with a 14-over-par, 75-83-158.
Junior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) was consistent on Monday, shooting only one stroke worse in round two. Through two rounds, she is tied for 26th with a 17-over-par, 80-81-161. Only two strokes behind Staudt, Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) is tied for 31st place with a 19-over-par, 83-80-163.
