SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Senior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) has been selected as one of only 20 student-athletes nationwide for the Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports Group Student-Athlete Mentoring Program.
Â
This year, the program expanded from eight to 20 student-athletes, who represent 15 colleges and universities across 13 sports. NBC Sports Group employees serve as program mentors and represent a diverse range of business functions including legal, human resources, marketing, digital, communications, operations, IT, finance, sales, and media production.
Â
Kness has been paired with NBC's Senior Director of Program Scheduling and Planning for Golf, Jennifer Rocha. Â Working in close collaboration with the Golf Channel news department, internal and external production units, and golf organizations around the world, Rocha leads the team that develops programming schedules including 180+ golf tournaments and over 3000 live hours each year.
Â
Running through May 2021, the Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports Group will engage with student-athletes on career development, network-building, interpersonal communication, interviewing skills, and navigating the workplace. NBC Sports Group mentors will share their professional experience, insights and networks, while the Women's Sports Foundation will facilitate monthly, virtual professional development, and explore themes around gender equality and advocacy.
Â
One of the great golfers in the history of the women's program at Seton Hall, Kness enters her senior year this spring. An All-BIG EAST selection, she had the second-lowest stroke average in the conference last year at 74.15, which set Seton Hall's single-year record. Kness has two career tournament individual titles and has the lowest career stroke average in Pirate history. Her 7-under-par, 65, in the first round of the 2019 Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational set the program's single-round record.
