
Zavagli Leads Seton Hall After Two Rounds at Georgetown

ROCKVILLE, MD. – Sophomore Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) is currently 9-over-par for the tournament to pace the Seton Hall women's golf team to an eighth place standing after two rounds of the Hoya Invitational on Saturday.

Zavagli shaved three strokes off her first-round score, using three birdies and nine pars to shoot a 3-over-par, 75, in round two. For the tournament, she is tied for 13th place among 69 individual golfers with a 9-over-par, 78-75-153.

As a team, the Pirates were dramatically better in the afternoon, shooting 16 strokes better in route to a 17-over-par, 305, in round two. The Pirates are in eighth place with a 50-over-par, 321-305-626. Princeton currently leads the 13-team field at 22-over-par. BIG EAST opponent, Georgetown, is currently fifth at 42-over-par, while St. John's is 10th at 62-over-par.

Senior Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) was consistent on Saturday, shooting a pair of 7-over-par, 79's. For the tournament, she's tied for 29th with a 14-over-par, 79-79-158. Graduate student Margot Bechadergue (Aix-En-Provence, France) is only one stroke behind, tied for 34th place with a 15-over-par, 82-77-159.

Freshman Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) had a dramatic turnaround in day one. She shaved 13 strokes off her first-round score in round two, finishing with a 2-over-par, 74. For the tournament, she is tied for 47th with a 17-over-par, 87-74-161.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup is junior Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy). She's only two strokes behind Sarras Pro at 19-over-par with an 82-81-163.

THE COURSE
Home of the 120th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, the North Course is Woodmont Country Club's original 18-hole course in Rockville, Maryland. The golf course was designed and constructed by Course Architect Alfred Tull with input and assistance from Woodmont member Leopold Freudberg and Greens Superintendent Rudy Will. Its Grand Opening was on July 26, 1950, and it has played to rave reviews ever since. In 1999, the North Course went through an extensive renovation, including replacing the original 18 greens done by renowned Course Architect Arthur Hills. From 2018 through 2020, the 18th hole on the North Course was redesigned, relocated, and a rebuild of all bunkers, under the oversight of architect Joel Weiman.

Long recognized for its championship golf course and welcoming atmosphere, Woodmont has hosted many Maryland State, Washington Metro, and Middle Atlantic Golf Association Championships. Since 1987, Woodmont has hosted the Final Qualifying for the U.S. Open and, on several occasions, the final qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open. The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is its first USGA championship.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgetown, the field is comprised of XX other teams including: Boston University, Columbia, Harvard, Howard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Stetson, Towson, Pennsylvania and Yale. Another BIG EAST competitor St. John's is also in the field.

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

TEE TIMES
The field will play two continuous rounds on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. On Sunday, there will be one final round, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Pennsylvania and Howard in the first two rounds.
