Fouratt, Zavagli Pace Pirates at Columbia Classic
2/11/2023 3:32:00 PM | Women's Golf
MELBOURNE, FLA. – Graduate student Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) fired a 3-over-par, 75, in the first round to power the Seton Hall women's golf team to a seventh-place standing after 18 holes at the Columbia Classic on Saturday.
Â
Fouratt had three birdies and nine pars and is currently tied 25th place among 80 individual golfers. Princeton's Yanjun Liu and Yu Kyung Kim as well as Penn State's Mathilde Delavallade currently lead the field at 3-under-par.
Â
Despite high winds that sometimes reached 30-to-40 miles per hour, the Pirates turned in a strong first round of the spring season. The Hall shot a 20-over-par, 308, and trails the team leaders, Princeton, by 26 strokes entering Sunday's second round. The Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition, St. John's, is currently in 14th place at 31-over-par.
Â
Junior Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) is only one stroke behind Fouratt following a stellar 4-over-par, 76, on Saturday. She had two birdies and 10 pars to fuel her round. She's currently tied for 31st place.
Â
Fellow countryman Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy) is only one stroke behind Zavagli after a 5-over-par, 77.Â
Â
Sophomore Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) is currently 8-over-par following an 80 on Saturday, while freshman Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) is 10-over-par with an 82.
Â
Competing as an individual, freshman Lara Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia) is 16-over-par following an 88.

Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,357 yards

Â
THE COURSE:
Upon visiting Duran Golf Club, golfers will find rolling terrain — characteristic of a links-style layout — accompanied by mild mounding around the large, undulating greens; sparkling lakes and ponds; sweeping doglegs; native landscaping; grasses and palm trees. Duran is located near the Atlantic Ocean, so the coastal breezes can add great variety to your game here. The par fives can be stout three-shot tests or tempting "go-in-two" holes.
Any golf course can say that it is unique or plays to every skill level, but Duran Golf Club has definitely set itself apart in its ability to appeal to the very talented golfer, as well as the shorter hitters or those still developing their game. Players at Duran are always amazed at the loving care and attention we give to our greens that putt fast and true. You'll also love the quality of our tees, fairways and roughs.
Â
THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Columbia, the field includes 12 other schools: Albany, Boston U, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, Penn State, Princeton, Richmond, Texas Tech, Tulsa and Youngstown State. Fellow BIG EAST competitor, St. John's, is also in the field.
