SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall baseball team scored seven runs in the sixth inning, capped by a three-run home run by Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.), and defeated LIU-Brooklyn, 10-2, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
LIU-Brooklyn took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Pirates came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game. With two outs, Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) drove in the tying runs with a triple to deep right field.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Pirates took the lead. With one out Rob Dadona (Staten Island, N.Y.) used his speed to turn a single into a double. After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Dadona scored on a sacrifice fly by Poduslenko to give The Hall a 3-2 lead.
Turning Point:
The Pirates broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth as 10 men came to the plate in a seven-run, four-hit inning. Ramiz led off with a single up the middle and stole both second and third base. After Matt Fortin (Nashua, N.H.) walked, Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) singled through the right side to score Ramiz. With one out, Fortin scored on a wild pitch. Sebastiano Santorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in Mogues with a fielder's choice for the Pirates' third run of the inning.
