Win, Pirates Climb Leader Board at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, ARIZ. – Sophomore Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) fired a 2-under-par, 70, in Saturday's second round of the 2018 Rio Verde Invitational to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place team standing with 18 holes remaining.
Win shaved 13 strokes off her first round score to lead the Pirates on day two of the three-day tournament. She used five birdies to pace her to her third career sub-par round. Through two rounds, Win is tied for 21st place with a 9-over-par, 83-70-153.
Collectively, the Pirates moved up one spot in the standings to second place after 36 holes. The Hall was 11 strokes better in round two, firing an 8-over-par, 296. For the tournament, Seton Hall is 27-over-par with a 307-296-603, and trails the team leader, Akron, by just four strokes entering Sunday's final round. The Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition, Xavier, is tied for eighth place at 40-over-par.
Sophomore Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) shot a 3-over-par, 75, in Saturday's second round and is currently tied for ninth place among 97 individual golfers with a 5-over-par, 74-75-149. One of the four golfers tied with Sager is teammate Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.), who shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round two. Through two rounds, Kness is 5-over-par with a 73-76-149.
Sophomore Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) also had a nice bounce-back round, shaving eight strokes off her first round score. Staudt finished with a 3-over-par, 75, on the strength of 13 pars. Through 36 holes, Staudt is 14-over-par with an 83-75-158.
One of the players tied with Staudt is teammate Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio). Pantelas shot a 9-over-par, 81, on Saturday, and is currently 14-over-par for the tournament with a 77-81-158.
Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) also made the trip and competed as an individual. The senior shot a 6-over-par, 78, in round two, and is currently tied for 15th place with a 7-over-par, 73-78-151.

The Course:
Rio Verde features two traditional-style courses with a soft desert look. They are more Midwestern in style with a lot more grass than one would imagine in a desert setting. When Tom Lehman led the $6 million course renovation project a few years ago, he achieved his vision of creating two uniquely distinct courses, giving members a never-ending variety of golf experiences. Quail Run has all the elements of a traditional golf course, and White Wing plays more like a links course. Common to both courses are meticulously groomed fairways, greens loaded with personality, and outstanding mountain views.
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Western Michigan, the field is comprised of 14 other teams including: Akron, Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas-Little Rock, UMKC, Wichita State and fellow BIG EAST competitor, Xavier.
Tee Times:
The field will play one round on each of three days. The tournament will begin on Friday with a 4:00 PM ET shotgun start. The shotgun start for both Saturday and Sunday is at 11:30 AM ET.
