3/14/2018 7:03:00 PM | Baseball
Burnham scattered just three hits over six innings, struck out four batters and walked only one to earn the victory and improve to 2-0 on the season. Sophomore Noah Thompson (Frisco, Texas) came on in relief and tossed two hitless innings with two strikeouts. Senior Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) completed the shut out effort with a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to claim his third save of the season.
Offensively, three Pirates collected two hits apiece with Christian Del Castillo (Miami, Fla.) and Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) reaching base three times each.
Turning Point:
Seton Hall scored all the runs it would need with a single run in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Ramiz tripled over the head of the Peacocks' left fielder. Sophomore Tyler Shedler-McAvoy (Allendale, N.J.), making his season debut, drove in Ramiz with a sacrifice fly to give The Hall a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pirates extended their lead to 2-0. With one out, Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Del Castillo had back-to-back singles. Freshman Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.J.) followed with an RBI single through the left side.
