SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Six Pirate pitchers combined to toss Seton Hall's third shutout of the season, a 3-0 victory over NJIT on Wednesday.
Â
Designated a "staff" day, no Pirate pitcher tossed more than two innings with the last three, Dom DiRado (Vestal, N.Y.), Richie Cimpric (Bayport, N.Y.) and Cole Hansen (Skillman, N.J.) throwing two innings apiece. Aaron Groller (Harleysville, Pa.) got the victory, and Hansen picked up his first save.
Â
Offensively, both Oscar Murray (Brentwood, Calif.) and Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) reached base three times. Murray was 1-for-2 with two walk an RBI and a run scored, while Pokorvsky was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. The Hall's third run was driven in by Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly.
Â
THE GAME:
Seton Hall got all the runs it would need with a run in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded and no outs, Luders delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Pokrovsky. Although NJIT got out of the jam allowing only the single run, the damage was ultimately enough.
Â
In the bottom of the fourth with one out, Pokrovsky singled hard to left field to score Murray and put The Hall in front 2-0. Lastly in the seventh, the Pirates got their final insurance run on a two-out RBI single by Murray.
Â
Meanwhile, Seton Hall's pitchers allowed only two base runners over the final five innings.
Â
THE NUMBERS:
Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, April 14 when it begins a crucial three-game BIG EAST series in Queens, N.Y. at St. John's. First pitch of the contest is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
