Miami, Fla. - The Seton Hall baseball teams scored in double digits for the sixth time in the young season and Dan Frontera (Red Bank, N.J) struck out five and allowed two runs in a 5.2-inning start as the Pirates defeated FIU in the series opener on Friday night, 12-3.

The Pirates (6-2) have plated 10 or more runs in six of their first eight games this season. Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) and Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) hit a home run in his first appearance of the season.

How It Happened

The Pirates took advantage of two Panther errors in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and Frontera retired six of the first seven batters he faced. Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) led off the top of the third with a base hit and Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) drove him in on a triple that made it 2-0 Pirates. Later, Melnick scored from third on a wild pitch and D'Amico drove in his first run of the game on an RBI dingle that pushed Seton Hall's lead to 4-0.

The Pirates scratched a run across on another FIU error in the top of the fourth before Viera's first home run of the season made it 6-0 Hall. Heads up base-running by Nick Ferri (Flemington, N.J.) gave the Pirates their second run of the fifth inning. FIU got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and it pushed another run across in the seventh that put the score at 7-3 Pirates.

D'Amico gave The Hall some breathing room with his second RBI base hit of the game in the top of the eighth before the Pirates put the game out of reach with a four-spot in the top of the ninth.
