Simone Asque joined head coach Allison Yaeger's staff as an Assistant Coach in February of 2018.
In 2020, Asque was named one of only six coaches nationwide to receive a prestigious Pac-12 Diversity Mentorship. The Mentorship is designed to educate and prepare the next generation of minority coaches through access and hands-on experience with Pac-12 coaches, who recognize that there is a need for a more diverse coaching pool in the sport across the country.
Asque joined the Pirates after serving as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina in 2017. After first joining the school as the second assistant coach, she was elevated to first assistant and recruiting coordinator in June. With Asque’s guidance, Coastal Carolina won the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships, in addition to making an NCAA Tournament appearance. Prior to her time at Coastal Carolina, she was an assistant coach at nearby NJIT for a year and a volunteer assistant coach at Illinois-Chicago.
“Simone comes to us from a very successful program and we are excited for her to bring her enthusiasm and competitive personality to our gym,” Yaeger said. “Simone brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the program having played at a high level in college and for the Jamaican National team. She will be mainly working with our outside hitters and with our offense. I'm very excited to learn from her, just as much as I'm eager to mentor her.”
A 2012 graduate of the University of Virginia, Asque was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree, including a First Team selection in 2009. She closed her playing career at UVA ranked fourth all-time in career kills, fourth in kills per set and second in attack attempts. She has also served as captain of the Jamaican National Team and played three seasons professionally in Europe.
