NEWARK, N.J.— The Seton Hall women’s soccer team fell to BIG EAST opponent St. John’s, 2-1 Friday evening at Lubetkin field. The loss puts Seton Hall’s record at 6-6-3 and 2-5-1 in the BIG EAST while St. John’s improves to 6-7-3 and 2-4-2 in the BIG EAST. The game was moved to Lubetkin field on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology due to poor field conditions. Kathy De Tata (Brick, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the Pirates.
The Pirates came out ready to play, scoring their first goal 11 minutes into play. De Tata scored the goal after Anne Anders (Berlin, Germany) passed the ball to Ashley Reinecke (Toms River, N.J.) in the corner, who then crossed it to DeTata in the box to put Seton Hall up 1-0. St. John’s tied it up five minutes later, with Krystle Jalalian putting the ball in the net for the Red Storm off an assist from Natasha Lee. The Pirates dominated offensively, almost tying it up at one with 30 seconds remaining, but the shot went just high. Seton Hall out-shot St. John’s 11-3 in the first half.
St. John’s added to the score 11 minutes into the second half to go up 2-1 off a goal by Brittany Cavarra. Krystle Talalian flipped the ball to Cavarra in the box and Talalian headed it in for the go-ahead goal. Despite being down a goal, the Pirates didn’t give up and dominated the rest of the half, keeping the ball in the Red Storm’s defensive end. Unfortunately, Seton Hall was unable to capitalize as many shots went high or wide and the score would remain 2-1.
The Pirates out-shot the Red Storm, 26-6, and dominated on corner kicks, 7-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.) posted one save in the contest.
Seton Hall will host BIG EAST opponent Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Lubetkin field on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J.
