OCEAN CITY, N.J.--In the first exhibition game of the 2005 season, Seton Hall women's soccer team lost a close 4-3 decision to LaSalle. The game consisted of three 30 minute quarters, with every Pirate receiving playing time.
Seton Hall jumped out to a quick lead, with junior Katie Pfister (Toms River, N.J.) notching the first goal 12:30 into the first quarter from 65 yards out. Sophomore Ashley Reinecke (Toms River, N.J.) extended the lead to two off an assist from classmate Kristen Ponichtera (Syracuse, N.Y.) at the 21 minute mark. LaSalle cut the Pirates lead to one with one minute remaining in the first period.
Junior Beth Troutman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added a goal one minute into the second quarter for the Pirates final tally of the game. LaSalle scored goals 14 and 25 minutes into the second quarter to tie it up. LaSalle would notch the winning goal off a direct kick 18 yards out 22 minutes into the final quarter.
The Pirates will next face Lafayette on August 22. Kickoff is set for 1 pm in Easton, Pa.
