EASTON, Pa.—In its final exhibition game of the 2005 season, the Seton Hall women’s soccer team shut out Lafayette 5-0 on Monday at Metzgar Field. The game consisted of three 30 minute periods with junior Meagan DeWan (Mahwah, N.J.) leading the Pirates with two goals.
Sophomore Katherine De Tata (Brick, N.J.)notched the first goal of the game 22 minutes into the first period, blasting a shot from 18 yards out. Classmate Kristen Ponichtera (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied the second goal five minutes into the second period off an assist from junior Aubrey Ellzey (San Jose, Calif.). DeWan added the third goal 19 minutes into the second period, launching a shot from 40 yards out.
In the third period, freshman Sheri Ferron (Brookfield, Wis.) beat the Lafayette goalkeeper on a one-on-one breakway to extend the Pirates lead to four. DeWan notched her second tally of the day 19 minutes into the third period off an assist from Megan Fenton (Piscataway, N.J.).
The Pirates will begin their 2005 regular season schedule on Friday, August 26 when they travel to Central Connecticut State. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Central Connecticut Soccer Field.
