Women's Soccer Blanks St. Peter's 5-0

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The Seton Hall women’s soccer team (1-1-1) earned its first win of the 2005 season, shutting out St. Peter’s (0-2-0) 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Oriana Nierojewski (Burlington, Ontario) led the Pirates with two goals. Sophomore Alli Donofrio (Wayne, N.J.) dished out two assists, and junior Beth Troutman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added a goal and an assist.

The Pirates dominated the entire game, with senior Mary Ronau (Gales Ferry, Conn.) scoring the first goal in the ninth minute off a cross from Donofrio. Junior Rita Massot (Glen Ridge, N.J.) extended the Pirates lead to two at the 22nd minute off with a shot from the middle in a set up by junior Meagan DeWan (Mahwah, N.J.) and Donofrio. Seton Hall outshot St. Peters 19-1 in the first half.

The second half offensive pressure was led by the combination of Nierojewski and Troutman. Nierojewski scored the first of her two goals in the 64th minute off a perfect cross from Troutman. Troutman then added a goal of her own nine minutes later, scoring from 10 yards out. Nierojewski scored the final goal of the game in the 76th minute, off an assist from sophomore Mary Jennings (Piscataway, N.J.) to make the score 5-0.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.) and senior Rachel Poor (Beverly, Mass.) shared the shutout for the Pirates. Seton Hall dominated shots 35-4.

The Pirates will host Temple on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field.
