SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The Seton Hall women’s soccer team (2-1-1) defeated Temple (0-2-0) 1-0 on Friday afternoon. Freshman Sheri Ferron (Brookfield, Wis.) tallied her first career point, scoring the lone goal for the Pirates.
Seton Hall took control of the game from the very beginning. The Pirates held the Owls to zero shots in the first half, while adding 14 of their own. Despite controlling the game, the Pirates were unable to get the ball to the back of the net and the first half ended scoreless.
The Pirates again dominated offensively in the second half. At the 56 minute mark, junior Meagan DeWan (Mahwah, N.J.) blasted a shot from 18 yards out, and after a diving save from Temple’s Tiffany Kasunich, Ferron booted the rebound into the net to put the Pirates up 1-0. Temple would put more offensive pressure on to try and tie it up, but Pirate defensive efforts by Jen Michewicz (Pottstown, Pa.), Anne Anders (Berlin, Germany), Sabrina Fleming (Johnson City, N.Y.), and Katie Pfister (Toms River, N.J.), held the Owls scoreless.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.) tallied two saves in the shutout for the Pirates.
The Pirates will travel to Monmouth on Sunday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at The Great Lawn field.
