SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.— The Seton Hall women’s soccer team fell to Villanova, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll field. The loss puts Seton Hall’s record at 5-2-2 and 1-1 in the BIG EAST and improves Villanova to 5-3-2 and 1-0-1 BIG EAST. Pirate goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.) tallied seven saves.
Seton Hall got off to a strong start, having out-shot Villanova 7-3 in the first half. Unfortunately, the Pirates couldn’t capitalize despite opportunities. The first half was scoreless as both teams could not get the ball in the back of the net.
It looked as though the Pirates and the Wildcats would head into overtime, but at the 71 minute mark, Villanova’s Lindsey Finnegan scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from Megan Farmer. The Pirates tried to tie it up, but with a strong Villanova defense, Seton Hall couldn’t get the ball past the Wildcat keeper. Junior Jen Michewicz (Pottstown, Pa.) almost notched the game tying goal with a header off a free kick, but the shot went just wide to the left. An evenly played game, both teams tallied 14 shots. Villanova committed 14 fouls compared to seven for Seton Hall.
Seton Hall will travel to BIG EAST opponent Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for Noon at North Kehoe field.
