JAMAICA, N.Y.The Seton Hall women’s soccer team fell to St. John’s 3-1 on Friday evening. Seton Hall falls to 6-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in BIG EAST play, while St. John’s improves to 8-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in league play. Senior Jen Michewicz (Pottstown, Pa.) scored the lone goal for the Pirates.
The game was a defensive battle, as there was a total of just 15 shots all game. St. John’s tallied 10 while Seton Hall posted five. All but one of the shots was on goal. St. John’s held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
The Red Storm scored the first goal of the game 5:15 into the game and never looked back. Vaila Barsely knocked in the first goal on a mis-cleared corner kick by the Pirates that was lifted back into the box by Susan Byrne, and Barsley put it into the net. St. John’s added its second goal of the game just a little over a minute later, at 6:21, when Natasha Lee scored from 15 yards out on an assist from Krystle Jalalian. St. John’s scored its final goal of the game when Amanda Pasciolla put the ball in the net on assists from Amanda Santos and Kelly McConnell. Seton Hall’s Michewicz cut the Red Storm lead to two in the 43rd minute when she scored from 20 feet out on a free kick.
The second half was a game of midfield play, as St. John’s tallied just three shots and the Pirates posted two.
Seton Hall’s Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.) registered six saves.
Seton Hall will travel to Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
