SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- The Seton Hall women’s soccer team lost to Syracuse, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates fall to 6-8-2 overall and 2-5-2 in BIG EAST play while Syracuse improves to 3-11-3 overall and 2-6-1 in league play. Seton Hall was out-shot 13-10, while Syracuse held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Kristen Ponichtera (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Ashley Reinecke (Toms River, N.J.) each tallied two shots.
The first half was scoreless as the teams volleyed the ball in the midfields, although the Pirates held a 6-4 shot advantage in the first half. Both goalkeepers made two saves.
In the second half, the Orange dominated slightly offensively, posting nine shots compared to the Pirates four. The Orange took six corner kicks in the second half, but the Pirates took just one. Syracuse registered its lone goal of the game in the 69th minute when Molly McManus connected on a pass from Tessa McDougall put the Orange ahead, 1-0. The Pirates tried to tie the game up, but couldn’t connect as the game ended with the Orange up 1-0.
Goalkeeper Erin St. Angelo (Piscataway, N.J.) tallied five saves for Seton Hall while Syracuse goalie Eliza Bennett-Hattan registered four.
The Pirates will host Louisville and Cincinnati in the final BIG EAST weekend of regular season play on October 20-22. The Pirates will play Louisville on Friday the 20, and will host Cincinnati on the 22. Seton Hall will honor its seniors on the 22nd. The games will be played at Lubetkin field on the campus of NJIT, game times to be determined.
