Women's Soccer Ties DePaul, 1-1

CHICAGO, Ill.The Seton Hall women’s soccer team tied DePaul, 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at DePaul. Junior Katherine De Tata (Brick, N.J.) scored the tying goal for the Pirates. With the tie, Seton Hall stands at 6-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in BIG EAST play and DePaul holds a 3-9-2 record and is 0-6-1 in league play.

The game was evenly played between the two teams. DePaul posted 22 shots while Seton Hall had 21. Both teams tallied nine shots on goal. The Pirates registered eight corner kicks while the Blue Demons had five.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half. Both teams had opportunities, but the first half was a battle of the midfields.

DePaul notched the first goal of the game 21 minutes into the second  half. Lea Hill put the ball in the back of the net for the Blue Demons in the 66^th minute, scoring on a one-on-one with Pirate goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa.), and put the ball just over her head for the 1-0 lead.  However, the Pirates responded 11 minutes later, when DeTata one-timed it from 10 yards out to tie the game at one. The teams traded possessions towards the end of the game, but neither could hit the back of the net as the game entered overtime.

In the first overtime period, both teams tallied one shot and one corner each. Senior Meagan DeWan (Mahwah, N.J.) registered the shot for the Pirates, putting the ball on goal but the DePaul keeper came up with the save.

Despite DePaul taking control offensively in the final overtime period, the Seton Hall defense held the Blue Demons scoreless to keep the 1-1 tie. DePaul out-shot the Pirates 5-2 in the final overtime period. Pirates Rita Massot (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and Ashley Reinecke (Toms River, N.J.) each put a shot on goal.

Becker recorded eight saves for the Pirates, while DePaul’s keeper Cara LaRocca tallied seven.

Seton Hall will travel to St. John’s on Friday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
