SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall women’s soccer was defeated by Syracuse, 1-0, Friday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the loss, the Pirates fall to 7-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse broke the scoreless tie in the 84th minute when Dana Bergstrom tallied her first goal of the season on an indirect kick 25 yards out. Jen Taormina tabbed the ball to Bergstrom whose kick deflected off Pirates goalkeeper Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa) and trickled over the line. For Taormina it was her second assist of the year.
Becker finished the game with two saves, while Syracuse had seven shots. Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) led the Pirates in shots with two of the team’s five.
The Orange finished the game ahead in corner kicks 4-0 and fouls 15-7.
The Pirates will return to action Sunday afternoon against St. John’s. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
