SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall women’s soccer lost to Notre Dame, 3-1, on a cold and rainy Friday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the loss, the Pirates fall to sixth place and three points behind the final playoff spot in the National Division of the BIG EAST Conference.
Notre Dame broke the scoreless game in the 36th minute when Elise Weber tallied her second goal of the year on a direct kick following a yellow card given to Pirates senior midfielder Beth Troutman (
Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) cut the lead to one in the 69th minute after Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) shot a direct kick off the crossbar right to Andreski for an empty net goal and her third of the year, however in the 82nd minute Lauren Fowlkes gave the Fighting Irish the two goal lead with her second of the year. Brittany Bock carried the ball up field before dishing a pass to Kerri Hanks who crossed the ball across the left side to Fowlkes.
Notre Dame finished with 16 shots, including nine on goal, while Seton Hall ended with ten shots, six on goal. Amanda Becker (
Notre Dame led in corner kicks 3-0, and fouls were knotted at 16 a piece, including two yellow cards to Seton Hall, one on Troutman in the 36th minute, and another on Megan Mills (Sykesville, Md.) in the 60th minute. The Fighting Irish finished with three yellow cards, Carrie Dew in the 9th minute, Hanks in the 89th minute, and their head coach in the 74th minute.
