
Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie Against Villanova

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall freshman Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) scored her fourth goal of the season, however Kaley Guthrie scored for Villanova 17 seconds later as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. The goal by Gross was Seton Hall’s first goal against the Wildcats since 2002.
The teams were held scoreless until the 52 minute of the game when Gross netted a shot from the top into the top left corner of the net off a pass from Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.). Just 17 seconds later, Guthrie took scored on a rebound shot from Nicki Maberry for her third of the season to tie the game.
Amanda Becker (Aston, Pa) made eight saves including five in the second half and one in each overtime to preserve the tie. Her counterpart, Jillian Loyden, made six saves of the day. The two teams combined for 29 shots with 12 of them taken by Seton Hall.
Villanova also took the edge in corner kicks 15-5 and fouls 17-10.
The Pirates will travel to Providence on Friday to take on the Friars as they continue their BIG EAST schedule. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
