Women's Soccer Tripped Up By Louisville, 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall women’s soccer team was defeated by Louisville, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field. The game marked the final 2008 regular season home game for the Pirates.

Prior to the start of the game, Seton Hall honored seniors Anne Anders (Berlin, Germany) and Cassie Gioia (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) for their four years of dedication to the Seton Hall women’s soccer program and community.

Louisville (5-5-3, 3-2-2 BE) took a, 1-0, lead when Shannon Leamy scored in the 33^rd minute.  Giselle Mangal took a shot from the top of the box past Pirates freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Bond (Glenside, Pa.), which bounced off the crossbar and right to Leamy who headed the ball into the empty net. 

The Cardinals added insurances goals in the 61^st and 74^th minutes.  Their second goal came when Mangal’s corner kick hit off the far post and into the net, while their third goal came off the foot of Caley Egan whose shot from the top of the box beat Bond low in the left corner.

For the Pirates (5-7-2, 1-5-1 BE), sophomore Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) netted her fourth goal of the season in the final minute of the game.  Freshman Taylor Wilson (Rahway, N.J.) made a cross pass to Gross who found the open net on the left side, to cut the lead to, 3-1.

Louisville edged the Pirates in shots 13 to 11.  Bond finished the game with two saves.

The Pirates will take to the road for the remainder of the 2008 season beginning Friday evening at Syracuse.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
