QUEENS, N.Y. The Seton Hall women’s soccer team were unable to muster enough offense as they were shutout at St. John’s, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Pirates are 5-9-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the BIG EAST.
The Red Storm (7-4-4, 3-2-2 BE) netted their first goal of the game in the 12th minute when Courtney Lane’s corner kick found Nicole Doran who headed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season. In the 66th minute, Sarah McGrath dribbled the ball down the left side of the field and fed a cross pass to Kelly McConnell who beat Pirates red-shirt freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Bond (Glenside, Pa.) for her second goal of the season, and a, 2-0, St. John’s advantage.
The two goals were all Red Storm goalkeeper Kristin Russell would need as she made two saves in the shutout.
Junior Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) and freshman Taylor Wilson (Rahway, N.J.) led the Pirates offense with one shot on goal each, and Bond finished the game with four saves.
The Pirates will begin their final regular season weekend when they take on DePaul Friday evening. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
