
Women's Soccer Falls Short To Rutgers, 2-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. Seton Hall women’s soccer red-shirt freshman Elizabeth Bond (Glenside, Pa.) made four saves in the second half and junior Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) scored her fourth goal of the season, however it was not enough at the Pirates lost to Rutgers, 2-1, Friday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the loss, the Pirates are 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST.
Rutgers took a late first-half lead in the in the 43rd minute when Becky Wise scored on a scramble in the crease. Following an indirect kick from Jennifer Anzivino and another pass from Gina DeMaio, Wise found the loose ball for her first goal of the year to give the Scarlet Knights a, 1-0, lead.
In the 47th minute, the Pirates tied the game when sophomore Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) made a pass to the front of the net creating a scramble in front. Andreski found the ball to put it into the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Ten minutes after Andreski tied the game, Rutgers took a, 2-1, lead with a header from point blank by Kristen Edmonds off a pass from Nina Montero. The goal was Edmonds second of the season.
Rutgers goalkeeper Erin Guthrie made six saves including matching Bond’s four in the second half to hang on the lead.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday evening with their final non-conference match of the season against Monmouth. The game will be played at Owen T. Carroll Field with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
