
Women's Soccer Holds On Against Marist, 2-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Seton Hall women’s soccer team scored two goals eight minutes apart and were able to hold on to defeat Marist, 2-1, Thursday evening in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. With the win, the Pirates have won their last two games and improved their 2008 record to 2-1.
Sophomore Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) netted her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute to give the Pirates a, 1-0, lead. Junior captain Megan Mills (Sykesville, Md.) made a pass to the middle of the crease creating a scramble in front of the goal where Gross was able to find it, and give the Pirates a late first half lead.
In the 50th minute, freshman Christina Cinelli (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) tallied her second goal of the season. Similar to the Hall’s first goal, sophomore Shannon Desmond (Chandler, Ariz.) made a pass to the middle of the crease causing a loose ball scramble, however, Cinelli was there to kick the ball into the lower corner of the goal.
Trailing, 2-0 in the 78th minute, Marist (1-2) cut the lead in half when junior Kate Fox scored her second goal of the season heading the ball in off a free kick from junior Maria Baez, however it was not enough.
Red-Shirt freshman Elizabeth Bond (Glenside, Pa.) picked up her second win of the season making two saves.
The Pirates return to action Sunday evening when they travel to Fairfield. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
