SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Sophomore Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) scored her third goal of the year, however it was not enough as the Seton Hall women's soccer team lost to Villanova, 3-1, Friday afternoon.
After the Wildcats took a, 2-0, lead early in the first half, Schulmann cut the Pirates (4-5, 0-2) deficit to one when she stole the ball from the Villanova defender and beat goalkeeper Molly Williams with a shot from 18-yards away in the 10th minute.
It was all Williams would allow as she made three saves, including two in the second half, to earn the victory.
The scored remained the same until the 23rd minute when Heidi Sabatura tallied her second goal of the game on a one-touch pass form the right side, giving the Wildcats the, 3-1, advantage.
Villanova (8-1-1, 1-1) opened the scoring when Sabatura beat Pirates' goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) to the right side in the fourth minute. Kelly Eagan added her team's second goal in the eighth minute when she headed a corner kick pass from Erin Byrnes.
Schulmann finished the game with two shots on goal while Stephanie Soma (Franklin, Mass.) and Taylor Wilson (Rahway, N.J.) each added a shot for the Pirates total of four. Pettigrew ended the match with four saves.
The Pirates return to action on Sunday when they host Georgetown. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
