QUEENS, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's soccer team outshot St. John's, 10-8, however the Red Storm made their one shot count as they defeated the Pirates, 1-0, Friday evening at Belson Stadium. The loss extended the Pirates losing streak to six matches and dropped their 2010 overall record to 6-9, 2-6 in the BIG EAST.
The teams battled to scoreless match until the 78th minute when Kerry Cummings netted her first goal of the year. The play started when Jen Leaverton made a pass to an open Morgan Ritter who took the initial header which banked off the crossbar. Cummings was there to pick up the rebound with a header of her own for the goal.
It was all the Red Storm (6-8-1, 3-5) would need as goalkeeper Kristin Russell made four saves, including two off the foot of senior co-captain Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.). Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) finished the game with two saves.
The Pirates will travel to Syracuse for a match Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
