SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Freshman Kaitlyn Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) had two goals and one assist, increasing her season total to a team-high 15 points, to lead the Seton Hall women's soccer team past Villanova, 3-0, Friday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. With the win, the Pirates have improved their BIG EAST mark to 2-0 and their winning streak to five straight.
Ritter started the scoring in the 17th minute to give the Pirates a, 1-0, lead. Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) started the play by creating a turnover at midfield. The senior then made a lead pass to Ritter who dribbled the ball into the box. Her initial shot was slowed by Wildcats' goalkeeper Jami Kranich, but as the ball was rolling towards the empty-net, Ritter beat the defender to tap in her sixth goal of the year.
After halftime, the Pirates came right out of the gate scoring two goals in the first eight minutes. Starting in the 49th minute, Ritter again scored off a pass from Gross, beating Kranich on the left side of the net. In the 53rd minute, Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) scored her third of the year on a shot 25-yards from the net over a leaping Kranich, with Ritter receiving the lone assist.
Seton Hall's (6-3, 2-0) offense was too much for the Wildcats as they recorded 13 total shots, six on net, along with nine corner kicks to Villanova's one. Villanova (5-5, 0-2), on the other hand, didn't pick up their first shot of the game until the 25 minute mark, mustering only seven total - none on goal.
The Pirates will travel to Georgetown for a conference match on Sunday. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
