SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Freshman Kaitlyn Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week-ending September 26. The award is Ritter's second-straight and third BIG EAST honor after being named Rookie of the Week on Monday, September 13.
The Pirates finished the week 2-1 and 1-1 in the conference led by Ritter's five points against Villanova Friday evening at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Maryland native scored two goals and recorded an assist in the, 3-0, victory.
Ritter started the scoring in the 17th minute to give the Pirates a, 1-0, lead. After Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) created a turnover at mid-field, she made a lead pass to Ritter who dribbled the ball into the box one-on-one with goalkeeper Jami Kranich. The initial shot was slowed by Kranich, but as the ball was rolling towards the empty-net, Ritter beat a defender to tap in her sixth goal of the year.
After halftime, the freshman got the Pirates started again with a goal and as assist in the first eight minutes. Starting in the 49th minute, she scored off a pass from Gross that beat Kranich on the left side of the net. In the 53rd minute, Ritter set up Katie Andreski (Wilkesboro, N.C.) for her shot from 25-yards out for the third and final goal of the game.
Ritter will take her team-leading seven goals and 15 points into the weekend where the Pirates will host Providence and Connecticut.
