CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Seton Hall women's soccer team was unable to solve the Cincinnati defense on Friday night, dropping a 3-0 decision.
The Bearcats were on the offensive in the first half, launching 13 shots at the SHU goal in the period. Cincinnati midfielder Logan Ballinger would put Cincinnati on the scoreboard in the 24th minute to break the scoreless tie. Off a corner kick from defender Kelli Pawelko, Ballinger found space near the back post and slid a shot past goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.).
Ballinger would strike again on an unassisted goal just four minutes later, beating Pettigrew for the second time on the night to give Cincinnati a 2-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.
In the 69th minute, a feed from Cincinnati's Emily Hebbeler found sophomore forward Jazmine Rhodes with only Pettigrew to beat. Rhodes found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, closing the scoring and giving the Bearcats a 3-0 win.
Cincinnati goalkeeper Kristina Utley recorded a clean-sheet, stopping the two shots the Pirates landed on target. Pettigrew made three saves in the losing effort.
In all, the Pirates were outshot 17-5 on the night.
The Hall (8-6-2, 4-5-0) returns to the pitch on Sunday for a matchup with the division-leading Louisville Cardinals. Kick-off is slated for noon.
