
Katie Ritter, Taylor Wilson Earn 2011 All-BIG EAST Women's Soccer Third-Team Honors

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Senior midfielder Taylor Wilson (Rahway, N.J.) and sophomore forward Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) of the Seton Hall University women's soccer team received 2011 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Third-Team All-Conference honors it was announced Thursday night at the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship banquet in Morgantown, W.Va.
Wilson led Seton Hall with 14 points this season, tallying four goals to go along with a team-high six assists. She receives All-BIG EAST accolades for the first time in her career. Ritter, who was selected to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team last season, led the Pirates with six goals in 2011 including three game winners.
Wilson finished her career with five goals and 12 assists for 22 points. Her 12-career assists rank fourth in school history and the sixth assists in 2011 are the fourth most for a Pirate in a single season.
Wilson tied for eighth in the BIG EAST in assists and 10th in assists per game. She received a number of awards throughout the season as she was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll (Aug. 23), the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 19) and the CollegeSoccer360.com and SoccerAmerica.com National Player of the Week on Sept. 20.
Ritter scored twice in 3-2 victory over Georgetown University in Seton Hall's BIG EAST opener on Sept. 16, and registered game-winners against Monmouth University, Princeton University and the University of Pittsburgh. She was named the BigAppleSoccer.com Player of the Week on Aug. 29 after registering scores against Monmouth and Lehigh.
After just two seasons as a Pirate Ritter is tied for sixth place in school history with 13 goals, and currently sits just one behind Rita Massot (2003-06) for fifth place. She is also 10th in Seton Hall history with 27 points (13 goals, one assist).
The Pirates landed a student-athlete on the women's soccer All-BIG EAST third-team for the second year in a row as goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) received the honor last season. It is the first time since 1999 The Hall has had multiple players honored with postseason BIG EAST awards.
Ritter is only the second SHU player to be named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team and go on to receive all-conference recognition later in her career; Seton Hall University Hall of Fame member Kelly Smith is the only other. The women's soccer team has now seen 10 student-athletes earn all-conference awards in the program's history.
Seton Hall University completed its 2011 campaign with a 9-8-3 overall record and advanced to the BIG EAST quarterfinals. The nine wins represent the most for the Pirates since 1999 and Seton Hall's 1-0 win over St. John's University in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament was its first postseason win since that same season.
