SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - A strong start has landed the Seton Hall women's soccer program in the ninth spot of the most recent National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) Northeast Region Rankings. It is the Pirates' first appearance in the poll since 1998.
Seton Hall opened the season with back-to-back victories, defeating Fordham 3-2 on Taylor Wilson's overtime game-winner in their season opener at Owen T. Carroll Field, and blanking Monmouth, 1-0, on the road. The Pirates recently tied Lehigh, the Patriot League favorite, 1-1.
The Hall is one of eight BIG EAST conference teams to earn a spot in the most recent regional poll, a group that includes six opponents on the Pirates' schedule.
The team is back in action this weekend at The West Point Tournament in West Point, N.Y. The Pirates square off against host Army for the first time in school history on Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. Sunday's game brings a familiar opponent as the Pirates will face Colgate in tournament play for the second time in as many years. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. In their first game of the 2010 Nike Colgate Invitational, the Pirates defeated host Colgate, 3-2, behind two goals from Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Seton Hall returns to Owen T. Carroll Field to take on the Tigers of Princeton University on Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
