Women's Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall University women's soccer has announced its 2012 fall schedule. Head coach Kazbek Tambi and the Pirates will see their season get underway on Friday, Aug. 17, when they host Long Island University at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J., at 7:00 p.m.
Seton Hall is coming off a 9-8-3 campaign, finishing 4-6-1 in BIG EAST conference play while picking up a victory in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 1999.
"This year's schedule is an exciting challenge for us. Our BIG EAST games are always fantastic challenges but on top of that we've got our toughest non-conference schedule since I've been here," Tambi said.
The Pirates will play four of their first five games at home before a stretch of four-straight contests on the road. SHU hosts Iona College on Monday, Aug. 20, Monmouth University on Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Delaware on Friday, Aug. 31, in addition to traveling to Lehigh on Friday, Aug. 24.
Seton Hall begins its road trip on Monday, Sept. 3, at Army, before heading down to Philadelphia, Pa., to compete in the Villanova University Tournament against LaSalle on Friday, Sept. 7, and William & Mary on Sunday, Sept. 9.
LaSalle and William & Mary are two of the Seton Hall's four non-conference opponents that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season. Army and Long Island were also NCAA Tournament teams in 2011.
"That will be an important weekend because we will be playing against two conference champions and it will come right before BIG EAST competition kicks in so it will be a real test for our team," Tambi said. "At that point we will be about a month into the season so I hope we are operating on all cylinders by that time."

The Hall opens its 2012 BIG EAST Schedule at Georgetown University on Friday, Sept. 14, before returning home for three-straight home games against conference foes.
The Pirates host Villanova on Sept. 16, Marquette on Sept. 21, and South Florida on Sept. 23. However, after that Seton Hall heads back on the road for back-to-back conference road weekends.
SHU heads to Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 28, and St. John's on Sunday, Sept. 30, and travels to Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 5, and to DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 7.
The regular season schedule concludes with three-straight home games to end the year. The Pirates host Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 12, and Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 14, before the regular season finale at home against Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 19.
"Everybody has a boost of energy when they play at home and we have a solid following and there are a lot of nights where we really feel like we have that extra player," Tambi said. "But in the BIG EAST whether you are home or away every game is extremely difficult and we just need to take it one game at a time."

The BIG EAST Tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 25, with first round action at campus sites. The conference semifinals and finals will be hosted Friday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 4, at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.
