
WSOC Adds Laventure as Asst. Coach

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Former Seton Hall University men's soccer standout Jerrod Laventure will join the Pirates' women's soccer coaching staff as a volunteer assistant it was announced Friday by women's soccer head coach Kazbek Tambi.
Laventure, who suited up for the Pirates from 2001-04, helped lead The Hall to a 42-28-12 overall record and four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances during his career. A versatile talent for Seton Hall, Laventure displayed the ability to excel as an offensive threat and in the backfield.
He scored eight goals to go along with six assists to rank second in the BIG EAST in scoring during his senior campaign, leading to First-Team All-BIG EAST and National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) First-Team All-Mid Atlantic postseason accolades.
"Jerrod has a wealth of playing experience at the highest level, from the MLS to international competition, that he will be able to pass on to our players," Tambi said. "Additionally, as a former Seton Hall student-athlete, he is someone who treasures the Seton Hall experience and his enthusiasm for the program will translate to our players."
Following his collegiate career, Laventure signed with the NY/NJ MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) in 2005, and competed with the reserve team for one season before being rewarded with a full contract in 2006.
He made his regular season debut that July and scored his first regular season goal against Columbus on July 19, a tally that was recognized as the MLS Goal of the Week and was nominated for 2006 MLS Goal of the Year.
Laventure played one more season with the MLS Reserve League in 2007, finishing second in the league in scoring. He was a member of the Haitian National Team in 2007, appearing in three matches.
Laventure obtained a United States Soccer Federation coaching license in 2011 and has three years experience coaching at the youth level. He graduated from Seton Hall in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
The Seton Hall women's soccer team opens its 2011 season on Friday, Aug. 17, when it hosts Long Island University at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J., at 7 p.m.
