
Manthorpes Lead Volleyball to Sweep of Cornell

Stacey Manthorpe registered a team-high 11 kills to go with 12 digs for her third double-double in four matches so far this season. Sister Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) nearly picked up a triple-double, settling for a match-high 27 assists, eight digs and seven kills. Sophomore Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had a match-high 19 digs to go with a career-high seven assists.
Seton Hall scored the first five points of the match and set one was never in question. Cornell never led and didn't get closer than two-point deficit. The Pirates were utterly dominant as their offensive attack connected at a .432 clip. Shelbey Manthorpe led the Pirates with five first-set kills. Stacey Manthorpe and Hansen had four apiece in a 25-16 victory that set the tone for the rest of the match.
The Pirates got off to a fast start again in set two, this time scoring the first eight points. Cornell made a small run to cut the deficit to 10-5, but Seton Hall took off again, scoring six straight points to take a commanding 16-5 advantage. Stacey Manthorpe led the way with four kills in set two. Seton Hall's defense did a lot to pressure Cornell into a number of attack errors. Cornell had nine errors in set two, compared to just seven kills for a sub-zero attack percentage.
Leading 3-2 early on in set three, Seton Hall scored five straight points to take an 8-2 advantage. Leading 12-7, the Pirates went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 18-8 lead. In control, The Hall strolled to a 25-12 victory in set three, completing the three-set sweep.
The Pirates will face Siena in game four of the Seton Hall Invitational on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
