MEXICO CITY - With preparations for the upcoming 2015 campaign already in full swing for the Seton Hall women's soccer program, incoming freshman Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) has been called back into the Mexico U-20 National Team.
Gonzalez will participate in the team's training camp - which is based in Mexico City and runs through August 16 - as Mexico readies for the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship. The CONCACAF tournament is scheduled to be held in Honduras over 10 days in December and will determine the region's three entrants into the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
During the camp, Gonzalez and Mexico will play a number of matches against local clubs as well as the United States U-20 team.
A consistent presence on the national team, the Bishop Lynch product helped lead Mexico to its first-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup title at the U-17 level in 2013. The recent call up follows a stint in June when Gonzalez suited up for three games with the U-20's at the Women's NTC Invitational hosted by U.S. Soccer in California.
Gonzalez is one of 11 freshmen positioned to debut for the Pirates this fall. Second year head coach Rick Stainton and The Hall kicked off a four-day preseason training trip to Green Mountain College on Thursday and will begin competition with an exhibition match against Delaware on August 13. Seton Hall will open the regular season against William & Mary (August 21) and makes its home debut on Friday, September 4 vs. Duquesne as part of a soccer doubleheader at Owen T. Carroll Field.
