MacLean, McGovern Pick Up BIG EAST Honors
8/29/2016 1:19:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEW YORK – Sophomore keeper Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced on Monday (Aug. 29). In addition, freshman Siobhan McGovern (Cranford, N.J.) earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll after scoring the game-winner to back MacLean's shutout on Aug. 22 at Army West Point.
The weekly awards are the first in the careers of both MacLean and McGovern, while the Goalkeeper of the Week nod is the first individual honor for a Pirate since Illissa Blackshear (West Orange, N.J.) earned the same award on Oct. 5, 2015.
The award for MacLean comes after the netminder made three saves in a 1-0 overtime win last. It was MacLean's second career clean sheet and came as part of 96:55 minutes of scoreless action. The sophomore currently holds a 1-1-0 record with an .800 save percentage on the year, playing the entirety of two overtime matches and accumulating a 0.95 GAA.
McGovern grabs an honor roll nod following her 97th minute game-winning goal that broke a scoreless draw on Monday night. The rookie led the Pirates with four shots, including three on target, in the victory and paces the Pirates with six total shots through two matches.
The Hall is back in action tonight when it welcomes Quinnipiac to Owen T. Carroll Field for the home opener. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be streamed for FREE on the Pirate Sports Network.
