SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) has been called up to the Mexican Women's Soccer National Team, announced by the Mexican Federation.
In November, Gonzalez competed at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Papa New Guinea, and contributed to victories over Korea Republic and Venezuela.
Last summer, The Texas native competed for Mexico U-20 at the Women's NTC Invitational hosted by U.S. Soccer in June 2015 and was a vital member of Mexico U-17 squad that captured its first-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013, completing undefeated run at the tournament.
She found the back of the net in both penalty shootouts as Mexico upended the United States and Canada - two squads that had accrued a +34 goal differential in the group stage - en route to the historic title. Additionally, she twice wore the captain's armband during World Cup qualifying.
The Mexican National Team will compete against Canada in a friendly on Feb. 4, 2017 in Vancouver, B.C.
